Installing your container snippet

Find out how you can install your container snippet on popular web platforms

The purpose of the container snippet

Managing multiple tracking codes can be a challenge, particularly if you need to add, update or remove them over time.

The Leadtosale container snippet allows you to remotely deploy, update and remove Leadtosale trackers from our UI, with no changes needed to the container snippet.

Head our additional documentation on containers here.

Pre-requisites

Make sure you’ve created your container before trying to follow these instructions. Once you’ve created your container, you’ll be able to find your snippet at the bottom of the trackers page.

Clicking the “GET TRACKING CODE” button will show you the instructions for your container snippet. This is the code you’ll need to put on every page of your website, or deploy through a tag management system.

Create a new custom HTML tag.

Paste your container snippet into the tag.

Add an All Pages trigger. If you’re using a Single Page App, you’ll need to fire this tag when users navigate between pages with a custom event, and modify your container snippet. This process has been outlined at the bottom of this article, in the “Installing the Leadtosale container snippet on Single Page Applications” section.

Save your tag.

Once you’ve saved your tag, we recommend testing it in preview mode before publishing.

You may have to edit your theme files directly, depending on the functionality of your theme.

Using your theme’s customisation UI if possible

A lot of themes will have a where you can put your global script tags in without editing your theme files. This may be added in a separate area, depending on your theme.

In our theme’s case, we can customise the header scripts by going to the ‘Theme Settings’ section.

There, we can add Header/Footer scripts.

Using something like this is a better option than editing your theme files, as these scripts will not be overridden when you update your theme.

These changes are also unlikely to break your site, unlike editing your theme files.

If you need help, we suggest you contact your web developer, or use a Google Tag Manager plugin and follow the Google Tag Manager instructions above.

Edit your theme files

This method is not recommended as your Wordpress instance may be configured differently. Making changes directly to your theme files may break your website.

Log in to the admin section of your Wordpress site. Go to Appearance > Themes > Theme Editor.

Then, head to your header.php file and add in the code just below the opening <head> tag. Then save your changes. This file may not exist for your theme.

If you need help, we suggest you contact your web developer, or use a Google Tag Manager plugin and follow the Google Tag Manager instructions above.
